LP’s Motion To Question IT Experts Used In Previous Election Is Rejected By INEC And APC

The Labour Party and Peter Obi, its presidential candidate, have asked to interrogate the IT experts hired by the electoral body during the presidential elections on February 25. But, the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, have rejected this.

Besides of contesting INEC’s claim that the All Progressives Congress’ Bola Tinubu won the election, LP and Obi are also looking for information about the information and communication technology specialists employed by INEC to oversee the election.

In an effort to support their case that questioned the validity of the election, Obi’s attorney, Patrick Ikweto (SAN), submitted two motions that included 12 questions to be sent to INEC.

If the interrogatory application were granted, they claimed, it would support their accusations that the election’s administration was faulty.

Nevertheless, Kemi Pinhero (SAN), counsel for INEC, objected to the application on the grounds that it was submitted after the deadline and within the legal authority. He claimed that by admitting the application outside of the pre-hearing session, the court had forfeited its authority to hear it.

Akin Olujimi (SAN), Tinubu’s attorney, and Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the APC’s attorney, both opposed the proposal.

Judge Haruna Tsammani postponed further hearing on the petition until today, Friday, June 9, after reserving her decision on Obi and his party’s interrogatory petitions.
