On Thursday, a few Labour Party election agents for the governor’s race in Enugu state in 2023 testified before the election petition tribunal that they had received their licence documents to cover the ward-level voting from their party, not the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
They revealed this while being cross-examined by INEC and respondents’ counsels.
Wole Olanipekun, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Alex Iziyon were among the respondents’ attorneys who cross-examined Labour Party agents (SAN).
The Labour Party agents, who claimed they completed the task without a legitimate ID card, were cross-examined over their sworn statement previously filed with the court.
Several even stated that security personnel were there and that the polls conducted in their respective Wards were calm.
Several agents said the election officers followed the electoral instructions in response to further inquiries from counsels to INEC and the suit’s respondents.
While the election was calm in the ward, one of the agents, Samuel Agboeze of the Labour Party in Obollo Eke, said he did not get an accreditation letter from INEC.
Nevertheless, he informed the tribunal that INEC accepted the letters after they provided it with the consent letter that had been granted to them by their party.
