Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal declared Tuesday that Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi won the 2023 presidential election. Lawal placed Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) second and Bola Tinubu of the APC third.

Lawal said he had avoided politics since the May 2023 election “faux pas”. He stated that he needed time to comprehend the election data. Lawal also noted that the rainy season had him focusing on his farms, his main source of income.

Lawal believes the main political issues for discussion and investigation are whether Tinubu won the presidential election and whether he was qualified to run, given his background. Lawal maintained that Tinubu did not win the election, regardless of INEC or the Appeal Court’s actions.

Lawal claimed that Tinubu knew he would lose the election and used unfair means. Multiple independent sources show that Obi won the most votes, followed by Atiku and Tinubu.

Given the negative information about Tinubu, Lawal believed ethical and moral standards should have prompted him to withdraw from the election.

Lawal proposed that Tinubu resign as president and focus on his health. He claimed that Nigerians realise Tinubu needs to represent them politically. Lawal said Tinubu can avoid public humiliation by resigning and prioritising his health. Tinubu knows about his damaging revelations, he said.

Lawal stressed that leadership requires integrity, trustworthiness, and the ability to unite and inspire followers. He claimed that most Nigerians think Tinubu needs to have these qualities. Lawal noted the nation’s growing confusion and despondency as people lose faith in the government’s promises. He also claimed that Tinubu’s appointments rewarded his supporters rather than those who cared about the country.
