Keeping The Passion

May 26, 2024 | Sunday Devotional

Revelation 2:4 “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left they first love”.

The Ephesian church started out with a fervor and zeal to serve the Lord. Yet, as the time went by, that zeal diminished, and they lost their passion for Christ. As new Christians, most of us were on fire for God and wanted to serve Him any way we could. As time goes by, however, it can be easy for us to lose our passion for serving Christ.

A preacher once said, ” On the whole, God’s love for us is a much safer subject to think about than our love for Him”. God Loved us so much that He sent His Son to die for us. Because of this passion and love Christ had for a lost world, He gave His life on Calvary. Do we have such passion for Him? Do you give your all in serving Him?

The early Christians delighted in serving God and did so with joy. But that joy diminished as their service become laborious to them. Even so, as we serve God, our service can become laborious if we are not careful to nurture our love for the Lord Himself.

One hymn writer wrote, “prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love, here’s my heart – O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above”. We are all prone to lose the passion we once had when we were first saved. Yet, God wants us to consistently serve Him with hearts that love Him.

The devil wishes to steal our passion because when we lose our love for God, our service will lose its effectiveness. That is why we must daily ask God to renew our passion for Him.
Has your passion for the things of God lessened? Do not allow your service to God become laborious.

Ask Him right now to renew your passion to serve Him better than you are doing. Hebrews 6:10 “God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have shewed toward His Name, in that ye have ministered to the saints and do minister”.
