Hon. Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada, Executive Secretary of the Almajirai and Out-of-School Children Commission of Nigeria, has awarded 32 Open University students almost N7 million in scholarships.
Shaaban, who represents the Kano municipal, federal seat in the House of Representatives, also contributed N50 million to Alqalam University for Kano municipal council students who moved from Sudan owing to the situation.
Representatives from the National Boundary Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and Small and Medium Businesses Development Agency of Nigeria attended the presenting event.
Sharada thanked the Almajirai and Out-of-School Children Commission for the chance to serve as Executive Secretary.
He reassured the dignitaries that his appointment would enhance the project.
He also promised to continue awarding scholarships and awards with his successor, Engineer Sagir Koki.
The exercise included financial grants. The heads of political parties, notably APC-affiliated ones, received N100,000 cash, the second group received N50,000, and the third category received N30,000, totalling over 1,300 beneficiaries.
Yahuza Gwani Gwani Danzarga thanked Almajirai and Out-of-School Children Commission Executive Secretary Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada on behalf of the community. He praised Sharada’s selection and believed he could help the commission achieve its goals.
Benga from SMEDAN recognised the Sharada Elders’ grants and scholarships and their role in fostering youth entrepreneurship and economic growth.
Fair and equal resource allocation was shown by batching monetary grants.
The celebration ended with the presentation of an N50 million cheque to Alqalam University and an N7 million cheque to the Open University, symbolising the dedication to education and young empowerment.
