Bola Tinubu’s continuous residence in the Aso Villa is condemned by “all responsible people in the world,” according to Ayo Adebanjo, leader of the Pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group Afenifere. This statement reiterates the stance of the major opposition parties that Mr Tinubu and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), did not legitimately win the February 25 presidential election.
“The manner he arrived there was improper. When he appeared on Arise TV on Monday, the man remarked, “That is doubtful; it is condemnable by all responsible people in the whole globe.
Regardless of the recent steps Mr Tinubu has taken, which many observers have lauded as the proper ones to put the nation on the right road, Mr Adebanjo said he would not recognise Mr Tinubu as president.
He continued by saying that he and his colleagues are now contesting the election outcomes that elected Mr Tinubu to the presidency.
“Aren’t you saying that I’m questioning the presidency? Is it not because he has the office of president that I assert that he is ineligible to hold it under the terms of the constitution, which I continue to contest, and that I am unable to recognise him in such a position?
“He is not doing well; I do not want to state that he has been doing well. God appointed him governor of Lagos State via me. I will wait to remark right now on his aptitude.
He said, “Afenifere’s position is that we want a free, fair, and credible election.
Before and during the election, Mr Adebanjo and the Afenifere organisation officially endorsed Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee.
The party has spent the past five weeks appealing for an annulment of the APC’s win before the presidential election petition court because it still thinks it won the poll, notwithstanding INEC’s pronouncement (PEPC).
On June 23, the party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) concluded their legal proceeding, leaving the respondents one week to prepare and launch their defence.
