Information about President Tinubu’s meeting with 5 governors from the neighbouring Niger

Abuja FCT On August 6, President Bola Tinubu met with five governors whose states bordered Niger at the presidential house.

Olusegun Dada, the President’s special advisor, tweeted that the meeting was part of President Tinubu’s efforts to improve Niger Republic dialogue.

The five governors were Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Idris Nasir (Kebbi), Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Dr. Dikko Radda (Katsina), and Mai Malam Buni (Yobe).

President Tinubu joined ECOWAS in breaking relations with Niger after the military junta overthrew the democratic government and gave the junta a week to relinquish power to the elected administration.

President Tinubu, ECOWAS chairman, has stopped energy and cargo from southern Nigerian ports to Niger to push the military junta to give up control to the democratically elected government.

Nevertheless, the military junta has refused to hand control over to the civilian administration, and there has been concern that the Wagner Group’s presence in the area may lead to Russian influence.

While the Niger Republic suspended relations with Nigeria, France, and the US, President Tinubu extended his governorship discussions.

On Thursday, July 29, the President submitted 28 ministry nominations to the Senate for screening and approval. On Wednesday, August 1, he sent the second batch to the Red Chamber.
