General Yakubu Gowon, former President of State and founder of Nigeria Prays, explained why he postponed the prayer rally to inaugurate Dr. Alex Otti in Abia State, God’s Own State.

Dr. Alex Otti, the governor-elect, was due to attend the Master’s Vessel Church Prayer Rally on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

Organizers immediately cancelled the presentation.

Apostle Chuks Alozie, the state coordinator of Nigeria Prays, revealed in an interview over the weekend that General Yakubu Gowon discontinued the programme because of the harsh criticism it received in Abia State and nationwide.

Alex Otti and others criticised the former Head of State’s prayer visit, along with the state arm of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP requested that he apologise to the Igbos and other personalities before attending the prayer event.

Alozie said the General and Nigeria Prays cannot be pulled into politics and that it was a sincere endeavour to usher in a new era in Abia State.

“We will continue to pray and struggle for the peace and unity of Nigeria, especially Abia State,” Apostle Alozie reported the General as saying in the interview.

The prayer rally included Labour Party governor-elect Dr. Alex Otti.
