In light of Chelsea’s sluggish start, Cahill outlines two things they need from Pochettino

In light of the club’s dismal start to the 2023–24 Premier League season, former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has pinpointed two things Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues need.

Chelsea has four points after four games and currently occupies the 12th spot in the Premier League.

Under co-owner Todd Boehly, the West London club had spent £1.1bn on new player acquisitions over three transfer windows.

Despite the fresh signings, Pochettino’s team is currently in the second part of the Premier League standings this season.

Cahill, who won two Premier League championships with Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge, thinks Pochettino will need “time and patience” to help the Premier League’s top teams turn things around.

They have experienced a few sticky results, which will help them. Contrarily, the manager [Pochettino] is a terrific person to lead them through this league. Therefore, I think he’s a great person to do so,” Cahill told Hayters.

“Of course, the results are rather disappointing, but the average age of the group is extremely low, and it is a brand-new squad,” said the coach.

“Many of them still need to gain experience playing football, especially in the Premier League, which will take time; the league is quite challenging.

“Yet, there is tonnes of talent. While I was gone with them for preseason, I observed the training and was quite impressed. Yet, it will undoubtedly take some time. These young players need time and patience to mature.
