Airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have killed fleeing bandits in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gawri Local Government Area.
Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the occurrence in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Aruwan, the Ministry got a distress call at 9:44 a.m. from armed bandits attacking Sabon Layi hamlet in Birnin Gwari LGA.
“It was proven that the bandits were shooting, rustling livestock, robbing properties, and conducting other horrific crimes, causing citizens to flee for their lives,” he claimed.
According to him, the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch was summoned for assistance, and the unit arrived at the scene quickly.
“A comprehensive scan upon arriving to Sabon Layi confirmed typical human activities at the claimed site.”
“But, the robbers were spotted retreating for cover from the aircraft around four kilometers north of Sabon Layi hamlet.” “They were engaged and neutralized in many passes,” he explained, adding that no more movement was spotted following the air strike.
“The airplane remained visible overhead before departing.”
“As the government awaits an official report on the initial attack in Sabon Layi village, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has thanked the Air Component for its swift intervention and expressed thanks for neutralizing the fleeing bandits,” Aruwan added.
