Prince Adewole Adebayo, SDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, praised President-elect Bola Tinubu’s campaign tactics.
Naija News says that Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform and would be sworn in on May 29 unless last-minute decisions are made.
On Tuesday night’s “90 Minutes Africa” internet debate show hosted by Rudolf Okonkwo, Adewole said he met Tinubu everywhere during the 2023 electioneering season.
He always has a governor, senator, Congress member, and traditional ruler working for him. We should do that with better, more optimistic people. Since we disagree, it’s hard,” he said.
We Need Institutions To Overthrow Old Politicians, Parties
Yet, Adebayo worried that old politicians and their parties would continue to dominate Nigerian politics until a coalition or alliance of young and new political entities took power.
The politician claimed that the combination with broad backing would retire the traditional parties and candidates.
Adebayo noted that many new political parties and politicians ran their campaigns separately, which weakened the young and new entrants.
“You’re the smartest candidate,” he said. Keep hearing that. Each silo hears that. The winner usually has most of the people working for them, and that’s another matter.”
Adebayo also noted that collaborating with other parties during the 2023 election failed since some of their representatives were placeholders with no power to decide their fate.
“Many politicians are just agents. Buhari’s independence allowed him and Tinubu to build an alliance. He led his team. Tinubu follows nobody, and nobody’s a boy. Some of these persons may be establishing alliances with them while working for others, and they’ll do what they’re told once they’re in the room. “The individuals you want to follow are following and shadowing some people,” he said.
