The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Nigeria would begin its defense of the WAFU B zone of the CAF Women Champions League championship it won last year on August 18 in Cote d’Ivoire.

The competition, which qualifies teams for the ultimate championship of the CAF Women Champions League, was initially slated to take place from September 10 to September 25. It is currently set to expire on September 3, 2023.

Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens won the final WAFU B competition in 2022 and went on to win bronze at the full CAF championship held by Morocco, defeating Simba Queens 1-0 in the third place match.

Morocco’s ASFAR won the 2022 CAF Champions League after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0 in the final. The seven WAFU Zone B member associations are anticipated to offer their national champions to fight for a place in the Women’s Champions League, according to CAF.

Ghana, Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, and Cote d’Ivoire are among the nations involved. The inaugural edition was won by Hasaacas Women of Ghana in 2021, while Ampem Dakoa Ladies of Ghana fell 3-0 to Bayelsa Queens in the 2022 final.

The 2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season, which will provide the country’s representatives in the tournament, still has two matches left before the title-deciding Super Six championship.

Delta Queens, Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, and Naija Ratels compete in Group A for Super Six qualifying, while Confluence Queens, FC Robo, Edo Queens, and Nasarawa Amazons compete in Group B for tickets.

Delta Queens top Group A with 24 points after ten games, followed by Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, and Naija Ratels, who have 19, 16, and 14 points, respectively.

Confluence Queens top Group B with 20 points after 10 games, followed by FC Robo on 19 points after 11 games. Edo Queens and Nasarawa Amazons have 19 and 16 points after ten games, respectively.
