If elected governor of Imo State on November 11, Labour Party candidate Athan Achonu will hold a Local Government Area election within six months.

Achonu, campaigning in Orlu, promised supporters that his administration would respect the other branches of government and allow the grassroots to function well.

The governorship candidate promised to build two industrial parks in the three senatorial districts to boost the state’s economy.

Achonu promised, “I promise to conduct a free and fair local government election in history where people’s choice will prevail no matter the political party affiliation.

“I assure this massive crowd that the first thing I will do after swearing in is introduce a community policing Bill to the state House of Assembly to establish an effective vigilante service that will work in synergy with other security agencies for a state free of crime, killings, and property destruction. I promised not to kill an innocent Imolite under my watch.”

He condemned the unnecessary extortion of residents at roadside security checkpoints and urged security agency heads to warn their men.

I will engage our youths in the bush, he said. People will be encouraged to return home and work. Criminals who refuse to change will be prosecuted.
