If Manchester United doesn’t sign Mason Mount, he’ll train and join Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the US.
According to Telegraph Sport, United have kept their £55 million third proposal for Mount on the table despite Chelsea rejecting it, but they are unwilling to meet.
Chelsea must decide whether to cut their £65 million value or let Mount return for pre-season next week under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino, who begins next Monday, hopes most of Chelsea’s unwanted players to be moved by July 17, when he heads to the US with the team.
Chelsea players will return to the Cobham training site on Tuesday, with international players enjoying additional time off.
Pochettino would prefer not to take any players seeking transfers on pre-season tour, but with some players’ futures still being determined, it may not be possible.
One of them is Mount, but the midfielder will assure Pochettino that he will continue to give his all for Chelsea and that he is ready to go on tour and train hard ahead of next season.
Despite not renewing his contract, Mount has not sought to leave Chelsea, despite three offers from Manchester United being rejected.
Pochettino, whose Chelsea contract starts on July 1, has not been engaged in the Mount scenario until now, but he may speak with the player if his future still needs to be clarified.
Chelsea transfers.
Romelu Lukaku is unlikely to join the US trip regardless of his future.
Chelsea have rejected Inter Milan’s season-long loan offer, and Lukaku has rejected a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabia.
Inter may be able to afford Lukaku if they sell custodian Andre Onana, who was Chelsea’s priority and is now Manchester United’s.
Juventus want Lukaku to replace Dusan Vlahovic. Chelsea may sign Vlahovic and transfer Lukaku to Juventus, but AC Milan’s interest in Lukaku seems unlikely.
Chelsea had considered re-signing Lukaku under Pochettino, but the 30-year-old has stated his desire to stay in Italy.
Lukaku’s future will be discussed again this week, and all parties agree that a quick conclusion would benefit Pochettino.
Kai Havertz is set to join Arsenal this week, while Mateo Kovacic is close to joining Manchester City and Hakim Ziyech and Edouard Mendy are ready to join Kalidou Koulibaly in Saudi Arabia.
Chelsea rejected Galatasaray’s bid to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who also has interest from Saudi Arabia, expecting to receive a transfer price for the 34-year-old. AC Milan are negotiating a £15m deal for Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic.
Chelsea are poised to bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo and AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Villarreal attacker Nicolas Jackson is being signed.
