IATA was created in Havana, Cuba, on April 19, 1945. The organisation promoted safe, dependable, and efficient passenger and freight air transport and represented the airline industry globally.

Airspace Africa says IATA was founded after years of airline and government talks.

Before IATA, various international organisations tried to govern air transport, but none achieved the worldwide collaboration needed to prosper. IATA was founded with 57 European and North American members from 31 nations.

The organisation swiftly added airlines from throughout the world. IATA represents approximately 290 airlines from 120 countries. IATA first standardised airline operations and regulations and established a foundation for international air transport agreements.

The group also developed new air transport safety and efficiency technologies. IATA has long shaped the airline sector, representing its members in agreements with governments and other organisations and promoting safety, security, and environmental best practises. IATA has worked diligently to keep air travel secure, efficient, and accessible, despite economic downturns, security concerns, and worldwide pandemics. On this day in 1945, IATA was founded, and we may celebrate its numerous contributions to the airline industry and look forward to a future where air travel connects people and communities throughout the world.
