Eberechi Eze, a midfielder for Crystal Palace, stated that he has “no regrets” about selecting England over Nigeria for international play.
Eze, a Nigerian-born English citizen, was recently called up to the England team in preparation for their forthcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Malta, ending Nigeria’s chances of luring him away from his own land.

Eze stated he made the right option in choosing to represent England and defended his decision.

In an interview with Londonnewsonline, Eze remarked, “I don’t know when I decided.”

“After getting a call, I decided it was the appropriate move to make. I’m beyond delighted to be here.

“I’m talking to my friends, my family, and my wife, getting solid counsel from them, and pondering the best course of action for me and my profession. We believe that this option—playing for England—is the finest.

“This is the top level of football, so it’s a great opportunity for me. I have absolutely no regrets about that.

On Friday, when England travels to Malta for their Euro 2024 qualifying match, Eze might make his debut.

When asked if he planned to play for England this week, Eze responded, “Potentially.”

“My key priorities are being the best version of myself, accomplishing what I can, and doing well in my training. Gareth has to make that choice.

For a very long time, I have been working towards it. I’m glad it happened now since I can finally demonstrate my abilities and compete on this level.

Eze, 24, produced attacking contributions consistently for the Eagles after Roy Hodgson replaced Patrick Viera for the final 10 games of the season. In 38 Premier League appearances for the Eagles last season, Eze scored 10 goals and collected four assists.

He was a target for the three-time African champions in previous years and trained with the Super Eagles before a cancelled friendly match against Burkina Faso in March 2017.

Amaju Pinnick, the former NFF president, met with the player in London in 2019 as part of his increased efforts to convince him to change his international allegiance to Nigeria.

However, the Greenwich-born midfielder’s dream ended after receiving his first-ever call-up to Gareth Southgate’s senior England side.
