Erling Haaland, a striker for Manchester City, scored against West Ham on Wednesday to bring his total for this season in all competitions to 51, breaking the previous Premier League record of 35 goals in a season.
The 22-year-old surpasses the 34 goals Andy Cole and Alan Shearer each scored for Newcastle and Blackburn, respectively, in the 1994–1995 season.
Haaland is still far short of Dixie Dean, an Everton legend, who set the record for the most goals scored in a single English Premier League season in 1927–1928 (60).
Haaland has broken records in his debut season of English football as City inch closer to a possible treble of the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.
He is the only player in the English top division since 1931 to have scored 50 goals in all competitions.
