On a humanitarian trip in Anambra State, at least four employees of the US Embassy in Nigeria have been killed.

They were slain on Tuesday when assailants opened fire on their car.

The incident took place in the state’s Ogbaru Local Government Area in the Amiyi/Eke Ochuche communities.

It is believed that the attackers entered the area where people were waiting to receive medical care from UNICEF representatives.

The joint security forces have launched a rescue/recovery operation in Ogbaru LGA following an attack on a convoy of staff members of the US Consulate today, May 15, 2023, by 3:30 pm along Atani, Osamale road, according to a statement from DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the Anambra Police Command.

The thugs killed two members of the Police Mobile Force and two members of the Consulate staff, after which they set fire to their bodies next to their trucks.

“No US citizen was in the convoy,” asserted Ikenga.
