David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is a well-known afrobeats musician from Nigeria who recently confessed unexpectedly during a guest appearance on the well-liked Drink Champions podcast.
Davido said that he was unaware of his family’s riches throughout his early years and only became aware of it in his teenage years in an episode presented by N.O.R.E. and D.J. E.F.N.
The top-charting artist said during the podcast interview that he understood his father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, was wealthy when he was 13 years old.
Davido recalled an important incident that made him aware of his family’s financial and social standing.
Their home had been damaged by an explosion, forcing them to move to a new, opulent abode quickly.
Davido thought back on the occasion and remembered the epiphany.
He stated:
“As much money as I’ve seen, all these wealthy this and wealthy that. My father is a strict parent. I only realised we had money when I was 13 years old.
He clarified further;
“My dad had a Honda Accord and was a millionaire. How did I know he was lit? Let me explain. As a result, an explosion caused several homes to be destroyed, including our first home since I was a child. We had to leave that day since the home was so messed up after that occurred.
Davido continued his story by describing how his mother had told him about their new home following the tragedy.
As they arrived at a lavish estate that his father had been covertly constructing in another city area, he voiced his shock.
Davido became aware of the magnitude of his family’s riches as he saw the grandeur and richness of the new home.
He revealed;
“We got going, and when he arrived, it was crazy. large cot. He remains there at this time. Mommy, what’s going on, I asked. That’s when I first began to understand how wealthy my father was.
