Gov. Fintiri’s Aide and PDP Backers Arrested for Attacking an INEC Official by DSS

Ahmadu Fintiri, Adamawa State Governor’s security aide, was arrested and held at the DSS headquarters.

During the recent governorship election in Adawama State, a security official was arrested for assaulting an INEC official.

After the now-suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari, declared Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Adamawa State, as governor-elect, a mob broke into Green City Hotel in Yola. It dragged INEC officials out of their rooms.

The DSS arrested at least three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) followers throughout the state for their involvement in the attacks.

Barrister Tahir Shehu, the state PDP chairman, led a demonstration outside the DSS headquarters in Yola Wednesday, demanding the release of the three inmates.

On Thursday, Judge Christopher Dominic Mapeo of the High Court ordered the DSS to release the three inmates unconditionally.

The judge postponed the motion on notice until May 3, 2023.
