The Federal Government has ratified six maritime accords and protocols that promote cleaner oceans, ship-breaking requirements, global fishing crew standards, and oil pollution response.
On Tuesday in Lagos, NIMASA Assistant Director, of Public Relations Osagie Edward announced this on behalf of Director-General Bashir Jamoh.
Hong Kong International Convention for Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships 2009 and STCW-F 1995 are accepted for ratification.
The Intervention Protocol 1973 and the Protocol on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims 1996 are others.
The 2002 Protocol to the 1974 Athens Agreement on Sea Passenger and Baggage Transportation.
The 2005 protocol to the 1988 protocol to Suppress Illegal Actions against Fixed Platform Safety on the Continental Shelf is also included (SUA PROT 2005)

eNaira: CBN sensitizes Kano University students, VC pledges support
The Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST) Wudil hosted a CBN e-Naira sensitization campaign on Tuesday in Kano.
Umar Ibrahim-Biu, Kano Branch Controller of the bank, urged the university community to use the new e-wallet system for tuition, salary, and other financial activities.
Ibrahim-Biu advised university students to adopt the e-Naira project to safely transition to a cashless economy for financial security and efficiency.
The controller noted that e-Naira was a trailblazer now that it had arrived and that the bank was attempting to get everyone on board.
“We’ve been to Universities of Nsuka and Jos and now we are here to market the notion of e-Naira wallet to both students and employees of the institution,” he added.
Gov. Godwin Obaseki raises Edo minimum salary, authorizes three-day workweek.
The recent fuel price spike has caused immeasurable suffering for Edo State residents, according to Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Due to rising transportation costs, the governor announced on Tuesday at the state house that civil and public workers would work three days a week instead of five.
Obaseki also raised the minimum wage from N30,000 to N40,000, the highest in the nation.
He pledged to pay this new amount monthly and raise the wage once the federal grant rose.
He stated, “Following the Federal Government’s gasoline subsidy elimination, fuel costs have skyrocketed, raising products and service prices and the cost of living.
“The Edo State Government shares the pains of our people and wishes to assure everyone that we are standing with them in these extremely tough times.”
Vice President Kashim Shettima has told African nations that Nigeria will fully join and lead the African Continental Free Trade Area.
On Monday, the Vice President assured stakeholders at an African Continental Free Trade Area conference.
Shettima said Nigeria’s participation will help it capitalize on the many prospects and strengthen its position in the African market.
Christie challenges Trump for White House.
On Tuesday, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie started his 2024 presidential campaign, positioning himself as the only Republican candidate willing to fight former President Donald Trump to pick the party ticket.
Christie, who advised Trump’s victorious 2016 White House campaign, has since been a vociferous critic of the former president, notably when he claimed the 2020 election was rigged.
Christie, a former federal prosecutor, launched his White House campaign at a town hall at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. He immediately attacked Trump, accusing him of avoiding blame and caring only about himself.
