Leading banking firm Fidelity Bank Plc recently started a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme called the Fidelity Food Bank to fight poverty and hunger.

The bank will join with carefully chosen Nigerian charities to supply food to society monthly.

Fidelity Bank Plc MD/CEO Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe said during a ceremony to officially reveal the project at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Victoria Island, Lagos:

According to the Global Hunger Index, 2.4 billion people—more than 30% of the world’s population—faced acute food insecurity in 2022. The National Bureau of Statistics reported in 2022 that 133 million Nigerians are multidimensionally impoverished and hungry.

The Fidelity Food Bank project allows us to continue touching lives and giving back to the communities we serve.

The launch event culminated with the official presentation of the food packs to the church, one of the bank’s food bank partners, by Reverend Father Julius Olaitan and other Fidelity Bank Plc executives and staff.

“It is stated that if you want to move fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go with people.” This underpins our cooperation with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and other Fidelity Food Bank partners nationwide. “Our partners will help distribute food to individuals throughout their various locations,” said Onyeali-Ikpe.

The Health and Social Welfare CSR pillar funds the Fidelity Food Bank. Education, the environment, and youth empowerment are CSR pillars.

Fidelity Bank, a Nigerian commercial bank with 250 business branches and internet banking platforms, serves over 7.5 million clients. The World Banking and Finance Awards named it Best Payment Solution Provider Nigeria 2023 and Best SME Bank Nigeria 2022.
