Sunday Adeyemo, a Yoruba nation agitator also known as Sunday Igboho, claims he will soon return to Nigeria to recover the N20 billion the Nigerian government owes him.
I’m returning to Ibadan, originally from Oyo State, Adeyemo remarked in a viral video on Wednesday. I’m returning home. Yorubas shouldn’t be worried since nothing will happen, and no one can make someone else fearful.

Adeyemo continued stating that his advocacy for the “Yoruba country” was proceeding as planned.

He said he expected the Nigerian government to grant the Southwest’s residents their independence from Nigeria.

He continued by saying that the court’s decision to drop all charges against him and grant him a 20 billion dollar judgement against the Nigerian government for the SSS’s “illegal invasion” of his flat had vindicated his fight.

“The court has supported my requests, and my agitation was legitimate and the question I asked the Nigerian government was appropriate. Also, I’ll get the N20 billion that the Nigerian government owes me, the activist said.

Mr. Adeyemo, a proponent of Yourba self-determination, was proclaimed wanted by Nigeria’s secret police in July 2021 after SSS agents broke into his home in Soka, Ibadan, at midnight.

Seven AK-47 rifles, pump action guns, 5,000 rounds of ammo, and other weapons, according to the SSS, were allegedly found in his flat during the assault.

The self-described activist claimed the firearms were not his and that security agents had put ammo in his home to frame him before fleeing the nation and going to the Benin Republic.

Later, when he attempted to board a flight to Germany, he was detained at Cotonou’s Cardinal Bernardin International Airport and turned over to the Cotonou Criminal Brigade.

Mr. Igboho sued the Nigerian government after the search and sought damages.

The Oyo State High Court ruled that the SSS raid on Mr. Adeyemi’s Ibadan home was “illegal” in September 2021, describing it as an act of “arbitrary hostility and biases” against the activist.

Ladiran Akintola, the sitting judge, instantly ordered that SSS pay N20 billion to Igboho as exemplary and aggravating damages.

The Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal, however, revoked the N20 billion in exemplary and aggravating damages ordered against the SSS for the assault in August 2022 because it found them to be unreasonable.

According to Judge Muslim Hassan’s ruling, the Oyo State High Court lacked jurisdiction over the case.

He continued that the judge shouldn’t have awarded damages based on his standards.
