In the last general election, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi said they want a better Nigeria that our children will not regret.
Chief Mike Ozekhome, a human rights activist, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to free IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Friday’s Handshake Across the Niger 2 in Enugu was Nzuko Umunna’s brainchild.
Ozekhone lamented that a Nigerian court ordered Kanu’s release, but the federal government moved for a stay.
IPOB leader Kanu’s primary attorney, Ozekhome, denied the federal government’s claim that Kanu skipped bail.
He said Kanu fled to save his life after armed troops invaded his residence.
“We’re telling the federal government this isn’t right,” he added. Free him. Kanu has ear aches, and DSS doctors say he’s sick.
They wouldn’t let him see his private doctor.
We ordered the Supreme Court to act. Case delayed until May 11.
“Please, sir, on my knees, free Nnamdi Kanu now. The Federation Attorney General can drop the lawsuit.
“Do the right thing without waiting for the Supreme Court ruling.
“For the information of those harbouring the thought that it was an illegality or unconstitutionality, his self determination agitation, is in line with the Article 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948); African Charter of Human and People’s Rights; Article 3&4 of United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People (2007) among others”.
In the last general elections, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi praised the Nzuko Umunna, led by former minister of power Prof. Chinedum Nebo, for their efforts to promote good governance and peaceful coexistence between the Igbo and other Nigerians.
“All we want is a better Nigeria, where our children will live without regrets, where the son of nobody would aspire to whatever position he works for on merits.
We must labour till Nigeria becomes what we desire, or it will swallow us. Classless anarchy. “It will engulf everyone,” Obi added.
His Royal Majesty, Orchivirigh Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, Tor Tiv and chairman of the Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers, stated Nigeria should follow Nzuko Umunna’s Handshake Across the Niger.
“Nigeria’s problem is bridge building,” he stated. Nzuko Umunna is reminding us of something crucial we’ve neglected.
He called for self-examination, justice, equity, and fairness in building bridges of peace across the country. He urged all people of goodwill to support the organisation since Nigeria needs it.
Prof. Nebo, Nzuko Umunna’s new president, said the group’s main priority would be Southeast and Igbo economic integration.
We’ll help Ohanaeze Ndigbo create unified engagement channels. We will work hard on economic integration, health and education advocacy, and national alliances with our allies.
“Handshakes Across Nigeria is a route for continuing involvement of our partners in the New Nigeria initiative and we shall continue to oil this vehicle,” he added.
