An inquiry is underway into allegations of racism made by Conservative MP Andrew Edwards, who allegedly claimed that “all white man should have a Black slave.”
Andrew, a former magistrate and county councillor from Pembrokeshire, Wales, is accused of declaring that black people are of a “lower level” than white people, according to recently unearthed online recordings.
“There’s nothing wrong with your skin tone. “I believe that every white males should have a Black guy or a Black woman as a slave.”
“There’s nothing wrong with skin color; it’s just that they’re lower class than us white folks,” he is said to have said on the tape.
Mr. Edwards, on the other hand, has voluntarily reported himself to the Public Services Ombudsman. The Pembrokeshire County Council Conservatives have indicated that they are looking into the incident.
Mr Edwards, who is also a school governor, was not suspended.
“I am aware of such severe claims being made against me,” he said in response to the allegations. This is why I have requested an impartial assessment by the Public Services Ombudsman.
It is now in the hands of legal professionals and the Ombudsman. It would be unjust to remark on the procedure.”
“We are aware of a complaint being made and have submitted the matter to the ombudsman,” a Pembrokeshire council spokeswoman said. More discussion would be improper.”
