Ambassador Samuela Isopi, Head of the European Union (EU) delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, highlighted the paramount position of EU cooperation with Nigeria on the global stage across various sectors including energy, climate, digital innovation, health, and entrepreneurship. This disclosure came during the celebration of Europe Day 2024 in Abuja.

Isopi emphasized the collaborative efforts between the EU and its Member States, along with EU financial institutions like the European Investment Bank, operating collectively as Team Europe. This synergy harnesses their combined strengths to advance cooperation across multiple fronts.

Aligned with the Global Gateway strategy, EU cooperation now focuses on strategic public and private investments, aiming to render such investments sustainable and impactful. In the health sector, besides ongoing support to public entities at federal and state levels, efforts extend to mobilizing both public and private sector investors to bolster local vaccine manufacturing and other health-related productions.

Addressing the political landscape, Isopi underscored the EU’s commitment to fostering a vibrant civil society, emphasizing its role in effecting positive change and ensuring accountability. The EU stands firmly beside Nigeria, its regional partners, and ECOWAS, dedicated to nurturing a community that prioritizes the well-being of its citizens.

In a similar vein, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, emphasized the burgeoning trade relationship between Nigeria and the EU. He noted the consistent growth in trade value, signifying ample opportunities for deeper collaboration.

Kalu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to creating a conducive investment climate, inviting further engagement and trade with European partners. Highlighting the EU’s significance as Nigeria’s largest trading partner, accounting for a substantial portion of its global trade, he emphasized the potential for enhanced cooperation and mutual benefit in the future.
