The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 52, 000 officers and personnel to provide security for this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations across the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The deployment was approved by the Corps’ Commandant General (CG), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, on Thursday.

He charged Zonal Commanders with ensuring proper security coordination of their zones, while State Commandants are tasked with effectively mobilising Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Component Commanders, and all Special Forces to achieve watertight security for maximum protection of the populace and critical national assets.

According to Olusola Odumosu, the corps’ spokesperson, the Commandant stated, “Our determination to ensure peace, safety, and protection of lives and important assets in collaboration with other security agencies must be carried out via our joint inputs.”

“For obvious reasons, I have tasked all Zonal Commanders and State Commandants with these obligations, and everyone must gird up to fulfil their jobs satisfactorily,” the CG remarked.

He directed that all Corps formations engage with stakeholders in acquiring reliable intelligence and conduct composite surveillance before, during, and after the celebration to avoid surprises from the criminals.

To ensure that the festival runs well, he directed that personnel be sent at prayer grounds, worship centres, leisure facilities, motor parks, gardens, marketplaces, retail complexes, black spots, and key installations.

The Corps commander wishes the Muslim faithful in the nation and throughout the world a happy Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr. He asked to God to answer all prayers for peace, stability, and security in the country.
