The late singer and friend of legendary Nigerian artist Innocent Ujah Idibia, nicknamed 2Baba, Sound Sultan, who passed away from throat cancer in 2021, may have lived if he had received an early diagnosis, according to 2Baba.

He said that when the singer of “Jagabantis” was ill, doctors originally suspected malaria.

He also attributed the delayed diagnosis to the nation’s subpar healthcare system.

The seasoned performer appeared in the most recent Afrobeats podcast episode, which British-Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, aka Shopsydoo, hosted.

How was your connection with Sound Sultan, and how has losing him affected you? I inquired with the host.

He was one of the “goodest,” if I may use that term, according to 2Baba. He was among the “goodest” people you could ever meet, comparable to an angel.

“I resisted accepting that truth for a long time; it seemed absurd. The diagnosis arrived too late. We believed it might be malaria, and he had testing done in Nigeria. But I don’t want to discuss it at all.

Remember that Sound Sultan passed away in the United States on July 11, 2021, at 44, not long after being identified as having throat cancer called angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.
