According to reports, Donald Trump has been informed that he is the subject of a criminal investigation into how he handled sensitive information.
Politico claims that the Justice Department informed Trump’s attorneys of the most recent development in a letter a few days ago.
Trump did not mention whether he had been made aware that he was a target, despite claiming on Truth Social that he had not been alerted that he was under investigation.
According to two people who spoke to Fox News, the lawyers were informed of his status change.
The official notification is interpreted as a hint that Jack Smith, the special counsel hired to look into Trump’s handling of top-secret documents, is almost ready to propose charges against him.
According to the Justice Department handbook, prosecutors have the right to issue a “target letter” to people who are most likely to be charged as a result of a grand jury investigation.
Before an indictment is issued, the move is intended to provide them with a chance to testify. There is no assurance that charges will be brought.
Targets are people who, in the prosecutor’s opinion, are prospective defendants and for whom there is “strong evidence linking him or her to the commission of a crime.”
Trump claimed he did not know that he was under investigation, but he admitted that he had known he was a target for years.
He wrote on Truth Social: ‘No one has told me I’m being indicted, and I shouldn’t be because I’ve done NOTHING wrong, but I have assumed for years that I am a Target of the WEAPONIZED DOJ & FBI, starting with the Russia, Russia, Russia HOAX, the ‘No Collusion’ Mueller Report, Impeachment HOAX, Impeachment HOAX, the PERFECT Ukraine phone call, and various other SCAMS & WITCH HUNTS.
