Former Kogi State Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primary election that produced Dino Melaye as governorship candidate.

Awoniyi cautioned that Melaye’s election as PDP gubernatorial candidate was risky.

Awoniyi said that Melaye’s votes were the result of a falsified delegate list, emphasizing the lack of integrity of the primary process.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, I boldly declare that Senator Melaye’s win is a pyrrhic one,” Awoniyi stated in a statement.

“This victory threatens our party’s unity and our chances of winning the gubernatorial race on November 11th.”

“The primary that produced Senator Melaye was defective; the 158 delegates that emerged from the state ad hoc congress on March 29, 2023, were replaced by the terrible Senator Abdul Ningi Congress Committee, which worked in concert with Melaye’s facilitators at the highest level.”

Awoniyi contended that giving an aspirant 158 votes in a race for 739 ballots with eight other contestants was unjust.
