The gang attacking Luck Aiyedatiwa, the deputy governor of Ondo state, has been dispersed—at least for now.
According to insiders, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu oversaw this development.
The move’s side effect is that Akeredolu will hand over control of the state to Aiyedatiwa as acting Governor for the next 21 days, according to information from SocietyNow.Ng.
In a letter to the Ondo State House of Assembly on June 6, Akeredolu formally ceded authority to Aiyedatiwa.
He stated that he had to travel for medical treatment to care for his health.
According to insiders, the Governor protected his deputy from those looking for him by ordering the “suspected arrow heads of the gang up to order.”
Dark rumours and unpleasant articles have recently been published about Aiyedatiwa, even touching on his relationship with Akeredolu.
Except to fix the one that dealt with his marriage, the deputy governor ignored these schemes of the “power mongers.”
The “excellent relationship” between Aiyedatiwa and Akeredolu is apparently not to the interests of the people dubbed “power mongers” with strong representatives in high office in Ondo state, particularly as the process to choose the Governor’s successor gets underway.
The election to choose the state of Ondo’s next Governor will take place in 2024.
And it is anticipated that Akeredolu, the current Governor, will be a key factor in determining his successor.
According to SocietyNow.Ng, “The attacks against Aiyedatiwa are obviously intended to disqualify him as a potential candidate, but Akeredolu has warned all stakeholders to keep the process fair and that any attack against his deputy is an unintentional attack against himself because it attracts unwelcome attention and rumours to his own office.”
Before the most recent handover of power to Aiyedatiwa, Akeredolu delegated authority to his deputy for fifteen days in April 2023 as he travelled on the first leg of his yearly vacation in 2022.
