In light of the position’sposition’s significant impact on the nation, a coalition of civil society organisations and community security advocates has asked President Bola Tinubu to prioritise competence, professionalism, and honesty before political pay. On Tuesday, the coalition reminded President Tinubu that the NSA appointment could make or break his administration.
Mr. Danladi Isaac, Executive Director of the People’sPeople’s Care And Advocacy Initiative (TPCAI), stated the group’sgroup’s opinion that Tinubu should go beyond politics to realise that Nigeria’sNigeria’s security situation is not normal.
Mr. President’sPresident’s national security adviser is the NSA. Hence, he advises the President on national security and national survival. National security normally protects citizens from internal and foreign dangers.
It’sIt’s not typical. Nigeria faces serious security issues. The new NSA must be knowledgeable, inventive, and experienced in Nigerian security.
“A person who will receive technical support from global security apparatus for a new secure Nigeria. Middle-of-the-road is unacceptable. A successful national security and diplomatic leader will suit.
Theorists and office employees need more time. Urgent and crucial. Nigerian security architectures need thorough transformation.
“In the last five years, banditry, abduction, farmer-herdsmen confrontations, illegal mining, and oil bunkering have reached astronomical and unacceptable heights that must be handled by not only a qualified man in military security, but a proactive, daring, calculative, well respected, and accepted individual.
“Apart from the aforementioned military security concerns, there are issues of economic security involving multi-national agreements, mutual interdependence, and availability of natural resources, with the freedom to choose policies to grow a nation’snation’s economy according to market forces.
Cybersecurity must be addressed. National security requires electronic information systems. State and non-state actors’ unlawful access to crucial government infrastructures can threaten national security. Sir, President.
“This is not the moment to exploit the National Security Adviser for political pay, but for national security system re-architecture and engineering.
“President Tinubu is a vastly experienced politician, who is judging by his utterances and actions in the last two weeks and, more importantly, who knows the gargantuan security challenges we currently face as a nation, would not be easily cowed by politically-induced influence but pragmatic consideration in the appointment of his NSA.
“We encourage and beg Mr. President to forgo politics in this critical appointment and consult extensively for a logical conclusion by inserting a round peg in a round hole in his pick as National Security Adviser,” Isaac added.
The alliance also believed Tinubu could keep his pledges, citing his first two weeks in office as a foundation for communication and consensus.
They said: “It is exactly two weeks since the Tinubu administration came into being. Nigerians have taken a wait-and-see approach for two weeks. President Tinubu’s management of national affairs is mostly responsible.
“The withdrawal of the petrol subsidy was an issue that could easily have fanned fire amongst the population, but President Tinubu swiftly intervened by physically meeting with stakeholders in the oil business and the Labour Union to soothe agitated emotions.
He persuaded health workers to abandon their walkout. He also signed a law harmonising all judiciary officers’ retirement age and pension.
On Democracy Day, June 12, he signed the student loan bill, which gives indigenous Nigerian students interest-free loans to study without stress.
Two weeks. While this period is nothing in Tinubu’sTinubu’s administration, it shows that he is willing to give platforms for dialogue and consensus building.”
The organisation told journalists that while NSA Babagana Monguno had done his best, the farmers/herders conflict had yet to be handled professionally.
