The first game at Euro 2024 will be played in Munich on June 14, 2024; England’s quest to qualify for the competition continues with matches against Malta and North Macedonia coming up soon; What lineup should England use if their opening match at the competition was tomorrow?
If England’s first match at Euro 2024 were to take place tomorrow, who should Gareth Southgate choose?
With just one year until the opening match of Euro 2024 in Munich, the countdown has officially begun.
England, who are presently in first place in qualifying Group C, will play Malta on June 16 at 7:45 p.m. and North Macedonia on June 19 at 7:45 p.m. in an effort to advance to the tournament in Germany next summer and improve upon their second-place result at Euro 2020.
Who would Gareth Southgate choose if his team’s opening game at the tournament was right around the corner? Players still have plenty of time to argue their claims throughout the course of the following year.
Would Aaron Ramsdale receive the opportunity to play goal? Would Trent-Alexander-Arnold make a comeback to the starting lineup? Would he play in midfield or defence? Would Jack Grealish lose out to Marcus Rashford for the left side?
Gareth Southgate tested Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield before Jurgen Klopp switched him to a hybrid position at the end of the previous campaign. Now it’s time for England to release him fully.
After Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, England’s midfield options are limited, which makes room for Alexander-Arnold to occupy the third position in a 4-3-3.
If no good candidate emerges for the left center-back position, Harry Maguire will remain in that position, and Marcus Rashford will start on the left side of the front three.
Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw, Rice, Alexander-Arnold, Bellingham, Saka, Kane, and Rashford make up Dave Richardson’s England Eleven for Euro 2024.
The defence of this team is their strongest point. Trent Alexander-Arnold will go to the middle of the field, and John Stones will play in a hybrid right-back, center-back, and center-mid position. Competitors in Europe will need to find out who is where!
You can choose the same from the prior tournament selections, but Gareth Southgate might replace Harry Maguire in one position. The Manchester United captain’s summer transfer status will determine a lot, but if he stays at Old Trafford, Levi Colwill will likely surpass him in the pecking order.
Colwill just finished a fantastic season on loan from Chelsea to Brighton, and no matter where he plays next year, he should be included in the England team starting in September. Other than that, anticipate Southgate to stay with the likes of Mason Mount from Manchester United in midfield, Jordan Pickford in goal, and Bukayo Saka on the right.
Southgate will undoubtedly realise his error in not giving Marcus Rashford enough World Cup playing time in Qatar. He is shown on the left.
Sam Blitz’s England XI for Euro 2024 is as follows: Pickford (4-3-3) Stones, Colwill, Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Mount, Bellingham, Kane, and Rashford.
