The allocation of the N500 billion palliative from the federal government to boost small-scale companies throughout Nigeria’s geographical zones has drawn severe criticism from the Kano State Government.

At a meeting with leaders of the Kano Cooperative Society at the Government House, Kano Governor Abba Yusuf reportedly expressed this worry.

The gathering was held in honour of the 2023 International Day of Cooperatives, which emphasised cooperatives’ crucial position in fostering economic and social growth.

The Kano Cooperative Society voiced its worries over the uneven cash distribution but vowed to support the state government’s initiatives to combat poverty-related issues.

The Governor said that the allocation of the N500 billion monies was unfairly skewed, with Lagos State obtaining the greatest portion of 47%.

The South-South Zone came in second with 17%, closely behind Lagos state, while other areas obtained substantially lower percentages.

The Governor referred to the distribution as unfair, unlawful, and against the law and demanded that something be done about it right now.

He pleaded with the competent authorities and National Assembly members to address the problem and take necessary action against those in charge of the unfair distribution.

The state’s commitment to helping cooperative societies in their initiatives to fight poverty and recover power was underlined by Governor Yusuf.

Aminu Gwarzo, the deputy governor, reaffirmed the administration’s intention to eradicate poverty in Kano State and highlighted its commitment to ensuring the equal distribution of resources and opportunities throughout the whole nation.
