Canada reveals the employment sectors that will receive priority for express entrance

The announcement of category-based selection drawings for Express Entry candidates was made by Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Sean Fraser.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will give priority consideration to Express Entry applicants who possess good French language abilities or professional experience in the following fields:

Transportation for agriculture and agri-food industries, as well as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professional vocations like carpentry and plumbing

For the purpose of filling unfilled posts across Canada, the new category draws are anticipated to start later this summer.

According to the Minister, allowing IRCC to sponsor more talented workers in these chosen professions will help Canada’s objective to attracting in-demand workers to communities all over the nation.

The Minister’s remarks

In order to reduce labour shortages and elevate the status of the French language in French minority areas outside of Quebec, immigration is seen as a crucial factor.

Employers all around the nation who are dealing with a chronic labour shortage have made their voices known loud and clear, says Fraser.
These modifications to the Express Entry process will guarantee that they have access to the qualified workers they require to develop and succeed. In order to safeguard the survival of French-speaking communities, we may also expand our economy, assist businesses with their labour shortages, and increase the number of French-speaking applicants.
Simply expressed, the immigration system in Canada is now more sensitive to the social and economic demands of the nation.

The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act was modified in June 2022, and this year was supposed to mark the beginning of category-based drawings. With the changes, the minister now has the authority to select immigrants in support of Canada’s economic interests based on certain criteria.

How were the classifications made?

In accordance with statutory directives, the Minister selected the categories after consulting publicly with the provinces and territories, business leaders, labour unions, employers, and groups that support working people. He also consulted immigration researchers and practitioners.

The IRCC will provide a yearly report to parliament on:

the reasons and methods used to choose the categories from the previous year
the guidelines for creating a category
how many invitations were sent out for each category
Regarding Express Entry

Express Entry was created in 2015 to suit the changing demands of Canada’s economy and labour market. The Federal Skilled Workers Programme, the Federal Skilled Trades Programme, and the Canadian Experience Class are the three types of economic immigration programmes for which the Express Entry system is used to manage applications.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) assigns candidates for these programmes points based on human capital elements like job experience, language ability, occupation, education, and more. The most likely recipients of an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence were the applicants who received the highest total CRS score.
