On the fifth day of his official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) met with the governors of Borno and Yobe states, Prof. Babagana Zulum and Mai Mala Buni, respectively, as well as Katsina State governor-elect, Dikko Radda.
According to the Nigerian News Agency, Buhari met with the governors at the Makkah Guest Palace. He also heard from several Nigerian government officials on the situation at home, including Saturday’s supplementary polls in various parts of the country.
Buhari was briefed by the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, at the Makkah Guest Palace, where he is being hosted by the government of the host nation.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, and former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.) also briefed the President on progress in their respective responsibilities.
In response to the briefing, the President stated, “Everything Nigeria has accomplished today is thanks to the power of its democracy and the power of our institutions, which must be enhanced further.”
Individually following the discussions, the governors of Borno and Yobe expressed gratitude to the President for his efforts in reducing the danger of Boko Haram terrorists in their states and expressed relief that peace had been restored.
They committed to continue working for the welfare of their people and to remain loyal to the President.
The EFCC Chairman informed the President on pending court cases and the strategy to prosecute additional criminals.
He also informed the President of the detention of many people in connection with election fraud and the determination to prosecute them.
Radda, the governor-elect of Katsina State, for his part, assured of his commitment to an open and transparent administration in keeping with his campaign pledges.
Following the meeting, the visitors joined the President for the afternoon prayers.
