With only 38 days left in his presidency, President Muhammadu Buhari apologises for any harm committed to Nigerians throughout his government.
He admitted feeling lucky and fulfilled as a politician, having previously served as military governor of Borno State in 1976, Minister of Petroleum Resources in the same year, and Head of State from 1983 to 1985.
Buhari also thanked the people for surviving his eight-year administration, which began on May 29, 2015.
Buhari’s Apologies to Anyone Affected by His Government
“Those who think I have harmed them so much, please forgive me,” Buhari remarked during the ninth and last Sallah tribute held at the Presidential House in Abuja.
“I believe this is a really wonderful coincidence for me to say farewell and thank you for tolerating me for almost seven and a half years.”
“I honestly consider myself extremely fortunate; I was made a governor, minister of petroleum, head of state in uniform, and finally, after three attempts, God, through technology and PVC, I became president.” I believe God has given me a great chance to serve as your president. And I thank God for it.
“So, please, whomever believes I have wronged them, we are all people.” There is no question that I have offended some individuals, and I really hope that you will forgive me. Please forgive me if I have offended you.”
Buhari’s Retirement Plan
“I’m counting the days.” Democracy is a wonderful thing; otherwise, how can someone from the other party be president for two terms? The distance between my hometown and the Niger Republic is eight kilometres.
“I tell you, I have purposefully planned to be as far away from you as possible, not because I don’t appreciate the affection you’ve given me, but because I believe I’ve gotten what I asked for and would rather quietly retire to my hometown (Daura, Katsina).”
