The Nigeria Labour Congress in Kogi State has asked Governor Yahaya Bello to resolve local government worker and elementary school teacher salary percentage problems.
Gabriel Amari, Kogi State NLC Chairperson, made the call in Lokoja on Monday.
Basic Education is useless due to local government wages.
Public commentators worry that local government personnel earning percentage pay will prevent grassroots economic growth.
Unfortunately, percentage payments to local government workers increase financial pressure and rural-urban migration.
“Your Excellency, as your tenor draws to a conclusion, we encourage you to persuade the authorities in charge of local government to restore full remuneration to employees to put (them) in level with their state counterparts,” he added.
Many factories and industries have closed and moved to neighboring countries for safety, so insecurity issues also need attention.
He added, “The hydra-headed insecurity monster has engulfed our country in all forms and all parts: ISWA/Boko Haram in the North East, banditry and kidnapping that is headquartered in the North West, Fulani herdsmen attacks mainly in Middle-Belt and other regions, IPOB secessionist killings in the South East, inter-tribal wars. Nigeria has constant communal confrontations and kidnappings for ransom.
“Despite your security measures, there are still security violations in the state. Herdsmen attacked Aloko Ogane-Enugu Village in Dekina Local Government, claiming numerous lives and homes.
The government should employ community police, vigilante, and hunting organisations to combat the new Fulani herdsmen gorilla-style attacks. Conventional policing may not cover state nukes and nooks.
Government and security organisations should prioritise intelligence collection to remain ahead of criminals.
“Kogi State is an agrarian society, and farmers depend on cropping and other agricultural practises to survive. Therefore, herdsmen’s frequent attacks on farmers pose a major threat to the state’s social and economic stability.”
