As the May 29, 2023, presidential inauguration approaches, ex-Rangers star Emeka Raphael has urged Bola Ahmed Tinubu to invest in sports development.
Sir Raphy, former Gabros and Jasper captain Emeka, made the appeal on Sunday, April 23rd, during the ceremonial launching of Sunshine Residence, a hospitality home in Nnewi, Anambra state.
Tinubu has a new assignment before May 29.
Sir Raphy remarked that sports development had been ignored in the nation for eight years and that the future administration should do all possible to enhance sports for the younger generation and Nigerians.
He said,
“The fact is that one of the areas where I feel the government is not doing what it should do is not getting professionals and individuals that are engaged in different sectors of sports to join in sports administration in the country.
“For sports development to succeed, the government must place square pegs in square holes. Ex-players seldom become engaged in sports politics in the nation because they won’t pay their way in. They bring in people who can’t repair Nigerian sports.”
He urged Tinubu to prioritise sports in his government so Nigeria may reclaim its sporting glory.
