Banky W, a musician and aspiring federal legislator, welcomed the Election Petitions Tribunal’s order for a rerun in Lagos State’s Eti-Osa Federal Constituency on Wednesday.

He called it a remarkable second chance in politics.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member Banky W discussed the judgement on Channels Television Politics Today.

He said, “It’s a miracle that we get another chance to finish the election.

“I think it’s a testament to perseverance, faith, and the collective will of the people who want to rebuild this democracy.”

Rerun in Banky W’s federal constituency ordered by the court.

On Monday, the ruling overturned Thaddeus Atta’s Labour Party victory.
The judgement declared the election inconclusive and ordered INEC to hold a supplementary election within 90 days in 33 polling units where voting was impossible.

These actions followed petitions from Wellington, the runner-up, and All Progressives Congress member Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro (IBO) (APC).

“People were upset they couldn’t vote in that election. Wellington said that was crucial.

“It’s important for our democracy that people can exercise their constitutional rights to vote.”

The 42-year-old noted that more than 30 polling units contained “almost 30,000 voters” who wanted to vote but were denied the chance.

The musician-turned-politician noted violence and voter suppression in certain areas.

Some INEC officials were absent from polling stations, he added.

He also recalled joining “hundreds, if not almost a thousand” protesters at the collation centre after voting on February 25.

“I am particularly grateful that the courts decided that every vote deserves to be counted and every voice deserves to be heard, regardless of who you vote for,” he said.

Atta won the Eti-Osa legislative election this year with 24,075 votes, ahead of Banky W and IBO with 18,668 and 16,901 votes.
