According to the Nigeria Police Force, it would look into Abdulgafar Abiola, also known as Cute Abiola, a well-known skit creator. It may even bring legal action against him for defiling its uniform.

The Force said that two recent sketches shared on Abiola’s social media accounts disrespected and disparaged its uniform on July 20 and 24, 2023.

In a statement on Thursday, the Force’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that Abiola had broken Sections 133 and 251 of the Penal Code Law.

He said that “such behaviours are not only disrespectful but also damage the integrity and dignity of the men and women who wear the uniform in service to the country” and that police have instructed skit creators and filmmakers to stop abusing their uniform.

“Abdulgafar Abiola will be probed and maybe punished for his purposeful activities, as the NPF had previously cautioned skit creators and filmmakers to stop from defiling their uniform or accessories,” Adejobi stated.

“The Force is dedicated to protecting the integrity of the uniform and will pursue appropriate legal procedure to guarantee responsibility for any person or group that wants to disparage the uniform or the institution it symbolises.”

All public members, including media figures, were urged by the police to use their right to free speech properly and to refrain from taking any acts that would damage public confidence in “our esteemed law enforcement institutions.”
