According to the new Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, special and standing committees would be established in the Senate by the end of July.
After being elected as the senate leader on Tuesday, Mr. Bamidele briefed the media.
He said that once the majority and minority caucuses, which include the primary executives, emerged, they would go right to work.
Soon, in July, he promised, “all the committees, special and standing, would be duly established.
“For us, the next challenge is to make sure we get started quickly so that starting tomorrow, we can take actions that will demonstrate that we understand what has to be done.
“Creating special committees for the 10th Senate is our first responsibility. We are allowed six special committees under our regulations.
This is done so that each senator may find work that fits with their professional expertise and allows them to contribute to the field effectively.
“We are prepared to reply to executive letters. We will begin with the confirmation hearing of the service chiefs and other appointments that the President had chosen via the full house committee.
He promised that now that new leadership had taken office, all legislative tasks would be treated with seriousness.
“With God’s help, we will be able to make a change that will be beneficial and that will be worth the effort of all of you who worked with us to make sure that the two presiding officers left without a fight.
Nonetheless, it goes without saying that the election of the 10th Senate’s major officials was not a matter that was intended to be resolved on the floor.
