Olugbenga Edema, an aspirant vying for the gubernatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has issued a cautionary message to the party leadership, advising against nominating the incumbent Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for the upcoming election.

During a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Abuja over the weekend, following his screening for the governorship candidacy, Edema emphasised that he had communicated his concerns to the party’s leadership regarding the potential repercussions of supporting a candidate with questionable credentials. Despite his confidence in securing the party’s ticket, Edema underscored his commitment to abiding by the party’s directives.

In reference to his gubernatorial agenda, Edema highlighted his past role as the chairman of OSOPADEC (Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission) and stressed the importance of investment and prudent financial management in fostering societal growth and eradicating poverty. He proposed revitalising the cocoa industry in the state, emphasising value addition and processing as a means to maximise its potential.

Similarly, another aspirant, Dr. Olusoji Adewale Eyinlanwo, expressed his candidacy as the embodiment of progressive ideas and representation for the masses and youth. Eyinlanwo positioned himself as the optimal choice to lead the APC in the upcoming election, citing his vision, credibility, and ability to unify the party as key attributes.

Asserting that competition among aspirants did not intimidate him, Eyinlanwo emphasised the need for the APC to select a candidate with the capacity to elevate Ondo State to unprecedented levels of governance excellence. He pledged to prioritise unity within the party, lead it to victory, and set a standard for exemplary governance in the state.
