Once the Federal Government ordered the Onitsha General Hospital to become a federal medical centre, Senator Stella Oduah of Anambra North introduced a bill to upgrade it.

The Onitsha commissioning was performed by Hon. Ekumankama Joseph Nkama, who represented Dr. Osagie Ehanire.

Princess Stella Oduah, senator from Anambra North, sponsored the enabling measure and saw it through.

She gave an ambulance to Onitsha General Hospital, Iyienu, and Waterside Hospital and Maternity, Onitsha.

At the occasion, Hon. Nkama said the federal government would hire more doctors and employees after upgrading the hospital to a federal medical facility.

Nkama praised Governor Soludo’s health sector governance and said the federal government would soon send doctors and other medical staff for internship and horsemanship.

He warned the general hospital personnel that to whoever much is given, much is required.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, praised President Mohammadu Buhari for honouring the SouthEast States and Anambra in particular, calling the improvement a parting gift to Ndigbo.

The Obi of Onitsha, representing Chief Emengo, thanked President Muhammed Buhari for completing the 2nd Niger Bridge and upgrading the Onitsha general hospital to a federal government health institution.
The senator said upgrading the facility to FMC showed her commitment to bringing federal attention to the state and her constituency. The FMC in Onitsha would provide affordable healthcare and employment, she said.

Since 2019, I’ve cared about people’s economic and health, so I’m grateful to the federal government and my Senate colleagues for supporting this law.

“After the improvement, our people across the state will have better health care and more job opportunities. Oduah said she will always be grateful to her constituents.

The former aviation minister, who has worked on many projects, scored again. Due to her focus on constituent health, Oduah has renovated health centres and clinics in the zone’s seven local government areas.

Umunankwo, Okpoko, and Ogbakuba primary health care centres and staff quarters in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, were refurbished.

Oduah also supported over 250 locals in an intensive Nursing Assistant training programme and other free medical outreaches through her youth development programmes.
