Protesters brandishing placards adorned with messages such as “Ondo APC rejects Kangaroo primary election,” “No primary held in Ondo,” and “We want a fresh election” gathered during the National Working Committee meeting. This coincidental protest aimed to voice grievances while aggrieved aspirants were being urged to reconcile and support Aiyedatiwa for the upcoming November governorship election.

Kolawole Johnson, the leader of the demonstrators and a party youth leader in Akure South, emphasized the need for a rerun election to appease the people of Ondo. Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Johnson appealed to President Bola Tinubu and other party leaders to influence the National Working Committee (NWC) to appoint a new chairman for the election committee to oversee the fresh poll.

He expressed concern over the ratification of primary outcomes and subsequent candidate declarations, alleging foul play. Asserting Ondo’s strong allegiance to the APC, Johnson underscored the demand for a nullification of the primary and the organization of a rerun, citing dissatisfaction with the previous process.

Johnson implored President Tinubu’s intervention, emphasizing the imperative of preventing opposition parties from gaining control of Ondo State.
