Tolu Bankole, a All Progressives Congress National Working Committee member, advised the new 10th National Assembly leaders to prepare for the massive task ahead.
Bankole’s appeal follows Tuesday’s National Assembly elections, in which the ruling party’s nominees triumphed.
Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau became Senate and Deputy Senate presidents, respectively.
Akpabio, proclaimed the winner by Clerk of the National Assembly Sani Tambuwal, received 63 votes to defeat former Zamfara State Governor Abdulazeez Yari, who received 46 votes.
In the House of Representatives, prominent Kaduna politician Tajudeen Abass and South-East member Benjamin Kalu won the Speaker and Vice Speaker positions.
At their legislators’ inauguration, Bankole encouraged the elected politicians to remember that their loyalty must be to Nigerians.
Even as the APC national leader for PWDs urged MPs to consider PWDs’ suffering while making laws.
“We must remind ourselves of the necessity to remain focused on the legislative agenda for the emancipation of our people,” he stated. People across Nigeria trusted you, putting you in charge. This is the time to be cautious, roll up your sleeves, and work together to solve poverty, instability, unemployment, and more through new legislation.
The 10th leadership must collaborate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to preserve the separation of powers. Your commitment must be to Nigerians, who will assess your achievement by the socio-economic good the laws bring. Thus, Nigerians must experience good.
Your supervision and legislative actions must promote policies that make Nigerians happier, better, and prosperous. The top must sacrifice to reduce the near-infinite gap between rich and poor and achieve development. Money doesn’t buy heaven. No of the aim, international economic policies that impoverish Nigerians should be abandoned.
The National Assembly should expect active engagements from PWDs, as we expect your support on other inclusion issues. Love improves us. I wish you luck as you lead the eleventh Assembly.”
