Former Super Eagles star Sunday Oliseh has lauded Belgian international Kelvin De Bruyne for his pivotal role in Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

Despite a fierce showdown at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s squad fell to the Spanish side, with Oliseh specifically commending De Bruyne for his crucial equalizing goal that ultimately led to a penalty shootout.

After the first leg in Madrid resulted in a 3-3 aggregate scoreline, the highly anticipated second leg saw Rodrygo open the scoring for Real Madrid, momentarily quieting the home crowd by slotting in a rebound past Ederson.

In the second half, De Bruyne mirrored the rebound scenario, seizing upon a loose ball to bring Manchester City level, thereby overturning their initial deficit in the competition.

In response to De Bruyne’s standout performance, Oliseh took to his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), to extol Man City’s captain and recognize his exceptional talents as a player.

“[Kelvin] De Bruyne!!! What a player,” he exclaimed.

After a grueling 90 minutes of regulation play and extra time, both teams were forced into a penalty shootout to determine the outcome.

However, a missed penalty from Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic sealed Real Madrid’s passage to the next round with a 5-4 victory on aggregate.
