Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State, has ordered all political appointees to immediately give over to their permanent secretaries or the most senior director/head of the ministry, department, or agency.
The committees, tax agents, and revenue agents were also disbanded by Governor Otu, who issued the decision in a statement by the Permanent Secretary General Administration, Dr. Innocent Eteng.
According to Otu, all government assets, including those previously occupied by political appointees, should be abandoned immediately.
Additionally, he ordered that all Local Government Council Chairmen turn over their duties to the appropriate Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAS) or Directors-General and Administration (DGSAS) of their respective Local Governments upon expiration of their terms.
Additionally, he declared that all governing bodies of parastatals, commissions, and agencies other than statutory boards have been abolished immediately:
“Until further notice, all land allocations and related matters should be halted.”
“All asset auctions are hereby halted and will be resumed as soon as practicable.”
Political appointees and other public officials who still have government vehicles must give them back immediately to the transport officer in the governor’s office.
