A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio for visiting his adversary, former Zamfara State Governor Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, who ran against him.

Mayaki praised and highlighted the action in Abuja. He said the visit was emblematic of Senate unity and political healing.

Mayaki said, “It sends a message that despite political rivalry, the leaders are prepared to put aside their differences and work together for the greater good.” He admitted that by visiting his adversary, the Senate President was committed to establishing agreement and finding common ground among senators, essential for parliamentary functioning.

Mayaki said the visit might reduce tensions and build political unity, promoting political stability. He thought the visit would inspire other MPs to collaborate, making legislative procedures and decisions easier.

Mayaki said the visit might build confidence and cooperation between the Senate President and his competitors within and beyond the party. Human engagement might help them understand one another and build future business partnerships.

“The visit may improve the public view of both presidents. It shows magnanimity and devotion to national interest above personal disputes. This boosts their reputation as unifying leaders. He also claimed that the visit might be a deliberate move to consolidate Senate control by showing the Senate President’s attempts to create coalitions and obtain wider support, boosting his leadership position.

Mayaki praised Akpabio’s efforts, especially his visit to Senator Yari, saying they have created Senate unity, consensus-building, political stability, trust-building, image upgrading, and strategic manoeuvring. He thinks this visit will help politicians work together better, assisting the legislative process and the country.
