The son of Adebayo Adefarati, the former governor of Ondo State, Gboyega Adefarati, got his Certificate of Return from INEC two months after winning the Akoko South East/South West federal district seat.
The Court of Appeal recognised Adefarati’s victory after upholding his election.
The INEC National Commissioner, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, delivered the Certificate of Return on Wednesday at the commission’s Abuja National Headquarters.
Remember that the Court of Appeal upheld Adefarati’s nomination by the party for the House of Representatives.
The Court confirmed the APC candidate as the party’s nominee after ruling unanimously that the lower Court erred in dismissing the APC primary that declared Adefarati, the winner.
A Federal High Court declared the primary that resulted in Adefarati’s victory invalid.
Adefarati asked the Appellate Court to appeal the ruling after the development.
However, in a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Yusuf Bashir, the Appeal Court overruled the lower Court, highlighting that it lacked jurisdiction and that the originating summons was not properly signed.
Adefarati received 25,872 votes to beat Gbenga Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 18,403 votes.
